The South Australia Police Pistol Club (SAPPC) membership comprises approximately 80 members.

Over 80% of the membership are serving or retired Police Officers from all sections within SAPOL.

The entire operation of the Club is run as a constitutionally incorporated body governed exclusively by serving Police.

Since 1975, the clubrooms and range have been situated in a picturesque valley at Gandys Gully Road, STONYFELL just 8 km from the GPO.  The SAPPC is the only South Australia Police sporting club to have its own facilities for exclusive use by the membership.

The objects of the S.A. Police Pistol Club are;
  • To provide for the general interest and practical use of firearms amongst the membership and other clubs,
  • To instruct and encourage the safe and proficient handling of firearms amongst the membership, and
  • To provide for the practice and instruction of Police whose duties may depend wholly or in part on proficiency with handguns or other firearms.

The club encourages members to practice for work related skills but is predominantly a SPORTING SHOOTING CLUB.  Skills associated with local, national, international and Olympic shooting competitions shot at the Club are not necessarily aligned with Police training.

Safety and responsible firearms ownership underpins all club activities.

The Club is approved for all classes of firearms.  At present rifles and shot guns can only be used on the ranges under specific conditions.  A dedicated rifle range has recently been completed (2010) and can be used for approved rifle shooting.

 The Club calendar features many other events such as the annual Club Championships, annual Christmas Shoot, Navy Challenge Cup in addition to our regular scheduled shoots and many a social Barbecue.  The Club has a strong following in all pistol shooting disciplines and is affiliated with National bodies such as IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) and ALEFTA (Australian Law Enforcement Firearms Trainers Association).

The Club hosts the pistol shooting events for the South Australia Police & Emergency Service Games (SAPES) and the Australia & New Zealand Police and Emergency Services Games (ANZPES).

The Club sends at least one team (5 shooters) to the national ‘Australia Police and Services Pistol Championships’ (APSPC), held in a different State capital each year.  The Club has hosted the APSPC in Adelaide on several occasions with most Club members having some involvement.

In addition the Club has sent and supported teams shooting at the “World Police & Fire Games” (Melbourne 1995, Calgary Canada 1997 – a team of 16! Stockholm 1999, Indianapolis 2001, Barcelona 2003) and hosted the biathalon and PPC events in Adelaide in 2007 WPFG for over 200 shooters.

Training & Membership

The Club provides Police, Country Police, Associate, Family and Social memberships encouraging an informal and safe environment.  All new members are introduced to the Club and hand gun shooting during a probationary and safety training period prior to obtaining full membership. (Contact the Committee regarding possible serving Police dispensation).

The Club conducts on going Firearms Safety Courses which qualify members for a Class H (handgun) Firearms Licence.  These courses are conducted by Qualified Club Instructors and involve theory and practical modules to familiarise new members with all facets of sporting hand gun shooting and competition.

Membership Fees for the Club are one of the cheapest Pistol Club Memberships in metropolitan Adelaide, especially considering the convenient location and excellent facilities at our range.  Members are permitted to use the range not only at competition shoots but have mid week access to all facilities with personally issued keys.
